The vigil took place on the 19th. June outside the United Nation's building in Tokyo. Aung San Suu Kyi continues to be under arrest for committing no other crime than wanting to help her people. Free the Lady now!

I took this image recently at a commemoration for those who were killed in the Depaeyin Massacre in Burma, seven years ago. The ceremony was held in protest, outside the Myanmar embassy in Tokyo.

I hope that this image brings notice to the continued struggle of those Burmese living in exile. Their lives are often very difficult. Change must come to their country, so they can once again live in a place called home.

The 7th Anniversary Of The Depaeyin Massacre In Burma

"For those who don’t know about the Depaeyin Massacre, on 30th May 2003, 2 miles outside of Depaeyin Township, a junta lead mob of about 5,000 anti-NLD protesters assaulted Aung San Suu Kyi’s convoy and a crowd of NLD supporters, killing hundreds of innocent people. With bamboo sticks, organized thugs beat and maimed unarmed supporters who came to listen to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Government officials directed the assault, while the police assisted the attackers in this needless blood bath.

Later after the assault, police arrested all the survivors, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who was the actual target of this thinly-masked assassination attempt. In the bloody aftermath, 80 or more NLD members and associates where beaten to death and disfigured during this ghoulish and barbaric junta-staged ambush. Everybody who died on that fateful day, died for democracy and many died protecting Aung San Suu Kyi."

A Visit To The Cambodia Development Organisation's Orphanage

This is a video of a wonderful day that I spent with my dear friends, Minty and Linda, at the Cambodian Development Organisation's Orphanage, where we threw a party for the children.

The orphanage provides 24 hour care and shelter to 21 children from poor and deceased families. The children in the orphanage all come from backgrounds of extreme poverty and deprivation. They range in age from two years to 14 years. Many have never been to school and are desperate for a safe and loving home. The orphanage provides three meals a day and ensures that all children are attend a government school.

In addition, the orphanage runs its own classes in Khmer reading and writing, as well as English language. The organisers also believe in preserving Khmer culture, so they teach the children traditional dance, as well as tuition in playing traditional Khmer musical instruments.

62nd Chin National Day Celebrations

I was honoured to be invited to the 62nd Chin National Day Celebrations in Tokyo. The Chin are an ethnic minority group in Burma. Due to their persecution by the Burmese military regime, many have been forced to flee and try to rebuild their lives in foreign lands, as refugees. Sadly, this is reflective of all minority groups in Burma.

However, as tragic as the plight is back at home, the joy and pride that the Chin have for their unique culture, shone magnificently throughout the event in Tokyo.

The evening of celebrations that I attended were a fantastic, determined display of Chin culture, which consisted of traditional singing and dancing, as well as a fashion show.

A highlight of the evening, was Sung Tin Par - one of Burma's most popular singers and an international star. She was absolutely spectacular.
